Buena Onda Cafe
Buena Onda means "good vibes," and that's the whole ethos of this little family run cafe on West King Street. It's a scratch made vegetarian and vegan spot for breakfast and lunch, and you do not need to be vegan to love it. I don't normally love vegetarian restaurants, I usually hate them. Don't let that scare you off, because the food here is fantastic.
The lineup is creative and Latin American influenced. The avocado toast gets called next level, the mushroom melt and the Present Moment bowl have devoted followings, and the breakfast burrito and vegan empanadas are favorites too. The drinks are half the fun, locally roasted small batch coffee and espresso, plant powered lattes like rose and maple vanilla, and house made ginger mint lemonade and yerba mate iced tea. There's beer and wine, and a little market in back selling local goods.
The staff are the kind of friendly that gets mentioned in every review, and even celiac and gluten free guests tend to feel genuinely taken care of here.
Here's what sets it apart. Buena Onda feels like a coffee shop when you walk in, but at most coffee shops the coffee is the hero and the food is an afterthought, something microwaved or pulled cold from a cooler. Here you get a great cup of coffee and a healthy, homemade meal that actually tastes great. That combination is rarer than it should be.
